Tacos are always a universal crowd-pleaser, especially when they’re made the traditional way, with extra meat and plenty of gooey cheese. And even though you’re building and creating your own tacos it's not the healthiest dinner option, so it’s great to find healthy alternatives that still taste great.
So in honour of taco Tuesday the Yo Sox team wanted to share an amazing recipe for some mouth-watering ‘healthy’ tacos. This way you can enjoy more tacos without having to feel guilty about the extra calories.
Here’s the recipe for healthy turkey tacos.
- One package lean ground turkey
- 1 Teaspoon garlic powder
- 1Teaspoon cumin
- 1 Teaspoon salt
- 1 Teaspoon chilli powder
- 1 Teaspoon paprika
- ½-Teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 Small onion, minced
- 2 Tablespoon bell pepper, minced
- 4 Oz can tomato sauce
- 8 Large lettuce leaves from Iceberg lettuce
- (Optional) 1/2 cup shredded reduced fat cheddar
-Brown turkey in a large skillet breaking it into smaller pieces as it cooks.
-When the turkey is no longer pink mix in the dry seasoning and mix.
-Add the onion, pepper, water and tomato sauce and cover. Simmer on low for about 20 minutes.
-Wash and dry the lettuce. Divide the meat equally between the eight leaves and place in the center of each leaf and top with your favourite taco toppings.
