It feels like there’s a different national day to celebrate every day of the week. And while many of these days are purely for fun, many help raise awareness about certain issues and causes that are often over looked. Today we celebrate and acknowledge the incredibly hard working individuals who are proud to call themselves nurses.
That’s right, May 6th is National Nurses Day and this is one day we can definitely get behind. Today is the kick off of National Nurse Week, which is an annual week long celebration that honors the contributions made by nurses around the world.
Nurses truly are the backbone of medical care — from hospitals, emergency rooms, military facilities and homeless shelters, to schools, clinics and nursing homes; nurses are there caring for those in need. Nurses often define the experience a patient has while visiting a hospital or doctor's office, yet their hard work and contributions usually don't get the recognition they deserve. Which is why this day is so important.
National Nurses Day marks the beginning of National Nurses Week, which ends on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is considered by many to be the mother of modern nursing. So, for the next seven days make sure to thank the nurses that you know for all of their hard work and contributions.
In honour of this special day, the Yo Sox team is wearing a pair of our awesome medical themed socks.
