Each year on the first Friday in June, donut aficionados participate in National Donut Day. This day celebrates the donut and honours all of the dedicated Salvation Army gals — the women that served donuts to soldiers during WWI.
We love this ‘foodie holiday’ because it actually involves free food. Of course, not every single donut shop participates in the festivities, but there are plenty of spots that are giving away some of their best sugary sweets.
On National Donut Day you can get a free donut at any Krispy Kreme location. There's no purchase necessary, but you're encouraged to donate to The Salvation Army's Red Kettles stationed at the cash registers.
Make your way to The Danforth in Toronto and head to Von Donuts where you can get a free donut with the purchase of any dozen donuts.
The Rolling Pin
This pin up style donut shop located at 3429 Yonge St. Toronto will be offering out unique donut flavours like s’mores funnel cake, Nutella cheesecake, spiked key lime, ginger peach pie, and dulce de leche. And while pre-orders are recommended, you can still swing by the shop and see what’s available. Don’t forget to try the Station Cold Brew coffee while you’re there.
This Etobicoke donut shop will have a special donut pick-up station where you can pick up one of their special National Donut Day treats. It’s first-come-first-serve, but there will be Lucky Charm, Strawberry Shortcake, and S’mores donuts up for grabs.
And if you’re obsessed with donuts as much as the Yo Sox team is, then you better make sure to have on a pair of our awesome Yo Sox donut socks. These amazing socks aren’t just a must-have for National Donut Day, but any day of the year. Our donut socks are currently available online and at our downtown flagship Yo Sox store.
